3rd Meeting Science Symposium in Brussels: Call for participation/papers

Third Meeting Science Symposium, Brussels, Belgium, 20-21 May 2021

How shall we meet today and tomorrow?

Meeting habits in the contemporary world

Meetings are ubiquitous. As researchers, practitioners, social activists, policy makers, managers or scholars, we spend a considerable amount of time meeting to do politics, devise policies, run organizations, and deliver public services. Beyond decision-making, meetings serve to make sense of situations, to govern and resist, and to learn. As such, they are vital, even decisive, to our social, political, organizational, and administrative life. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, most face-to-face meetings were replaced by virtual meetings. Also, after the lockdown measures, virtual meetings are expected to remain important and be combined with face-to-face meetings. The consequences thereof are still to be researched.

We see this unexpected, unprepared and rapid change as an occasion to initiate a collective reflection about our contemporary meeting habits, meeting architectures and the role of meetings in nowadays globalized and rapidly changing societies. Therefore, we would like to invite you to the Third Meetings Science Symposium held on 20 and 21 May in Brussels .

Hi

Checking in to see if the dates for submitting abstracts have been extended? I have just discovered the dates of this event and have completed PhD research in the aspects of group memory, learning and knowledge practices in meetings that I would love to present about.

Kindest regards

Mandy Lacy

Hi Willem, hope you received my abstract. Kindest regards, Mandy

Yes we did, see our reply via email please.

We decided to cancel this year’s Meeting Science Symposium, but are committed to organize it next year, in May 2022, in Brussels, Belgium.

However, we would like to invite you for an informal gathering to talk about your research or to share your questions about meetings during a workshop that will take place on Zoom on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 4pm to 6pm and from 7pm to 9pm Central European Time.

With the workshop we want to give researchers interested in meetings an occasion to keep in touch and to share their questions and thoughts. The workshop will include two sessions, the details of which can be found via this Google doc: Meeting Science - Informal Gathering on Wednesday May 19th - Google Docs

Please add your name to the Google doc if you want to participate in the workshop
Please send an email to mss2021brussels@gmail.com if you want to present your work (10 minutes presentation, PowerPoint allowed but not required).

We apologize for cancelling the formal MSS this year and we sincerely hope to see you on Zoom for the workshop,

Sophie, Lianne and Willem
